「テニス（焼き）」

このたび光灯では、 2025年10月17日（金）〜11月2日（日）にかけて陶芸家・DAISAKの個展「テニス（焼き）」を開催いたします。

DAISAKは1986年京都府生まれ。京都府京丹後市を拠点に作陶を続け、近年、各地で個展やグループ展に参加するほか、カップやお皿などのプロダクトも積極的に発表。ゆるやかなタッチのイラストと組み合わされた使い勝手の良い食器は、国内外で多くのファンを魅了しています。DAISAKの陶芸の原点は、子供の頃に遊んだ粘土やレゴの造形と、空想の物語だと言います。それらの遊びと、プラモデルやジオラマなど、昔から好きだったという立体の要素が組み合わされた独自の世界観が、陶芸表現を拡張しています。

本展では、食器などの「器づくり」と、これまで「作品」として発表してきた立体作品とを分け隔てることなく展示します。DAISAKは、これまで個展において食器類をあえて展示から外してきました。しかし、「商品」と「作品」という線引きに対する違和感から、本展ではその境界を取り払い、日常の中で使う器やオブジェを同じ地平で見せる試みを行います。

作家にとって、器もまた生活の延長線上にある創作のひとつであり、その造形や絵柄には自身の空想や物語性が滲み出ています。日常と創作の間にある緩やかなつながりを感じ取ることができるでしょう。

さらに本展では、作家が近年熱中している「テニス」をモチーフにした新作も発表します。中高時代から続けてきたテニスを大人になって再開し、試合を通して自身の作風や制作姿勢と通じ合う部分を見出したといいます。テニスも陶芸も、生活の一部として作家の中に根づく行為であり、そのリズムや思考の反復が新たな造形表現へと結びついています。会場では、作家が自ら撮影したテニスの映像作品も上映予定です。応援の声やコートの音とともに、作品と作家の生活が響き合う空間が立ち上がります。

アーティスト・ステートメント

私の普段の制作は、立体作品に比べて器を作る時間が殆どの割合を締めています。

個展をする際は、いつも食器類は展示せず、立体作品や一点物を展示しています。

その時に、なんとなくここからが作品でここからは商品という線引きをして、展示らしさを演出している自分に違和感を持っています。自分の中では商品として売り出す物も、作品として展示する物もグラデーションで繋がっている。そこを商品や作品といった呼び方、または置く場所に応じて線引きし対応している。適材適所とは言えるものの。

本展ではその線引きをせず、日常食器などの生活の中で使う身近な物も交えての展示を試みます。

また、自分は中学高校とテニス部に所属し、大人になってテニスを再開し、ここ3年くらい結構真剣にテニスをしています。試合をすると自分のプレイスタイルや欠点と作家活動に不思議と通じるところがあったりして、凄く面白い。テニスも陶芸も自分の生活の一部になっています。

今回はこのテニスをモチーフにした陶芸作品を展示します。

アーティスト・プロフィール｜

DAISAK　ダイサク

1986年京都府生まれ。現在、京丹後市でスタジオを構え制作を続けている。フィギュアや土産物、リサイクルショップの商品などの所在不明なものに魅力を感じて陶芸に落とし込んだ作品を制作。また、マグカップやプレートなど日常的に使える陶器も発表している。

近年の主な展覧会に、2025年西雄大との2人展「カントリーサイド・リビング・フォーキー」（代官山蔦屋書店）、2024年個展「NEO FULL SUPPORT BODY」（MARGIN、東京）、2022年個展「OFFICIAL MY FAVORITE EARTH」（VOU、京都）、SHOKKIとの2人展「DAISAKvsSHOKKI〜炎の15番勝負〜」（代官山蔦屋書店、東京）、2021年アレキサンダー・ジュリアンとの2人展「HOUSES」（HAITSU、東京）など。

“Tennis(Firing)”

Kohtoh Gallery is pleased to present DAISAK’s solo exhibition “Tennis (Firing)”, on view from October 17 (Fri) to November 2 (Sun), 2025.

Born in Kyoto in 1986, DAISAK is a ceramic artist based in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture. In addition to holding numerous solo and group exhibitions across Japan, he also produces practical ceramics such as cups and plates. His functional yet playful tableware, often adorned with softly drawn illustrations, has captivated fans both in Japan and abroad.

DAISAK traces the origin of his ceramic practice to his childhood love of shaping clay and LEGO, as well as to his imaginative storytelling. These early forms of play—combined with his long-standing fascination with dioramas, model kits, and architectural structures—have evolved into a distinctive artistic world that expands the expressive potential of ceramics.

In this exhibition, DAISAK presents both tableware and sculptural works without distinguishing between “artworks” and “products.” In his past exhibitions, he intentionally excluded his functional ceramics, but feeling uneasy about the rigid boundary between “art” and “product,” he now seeks to dissolve it. Everyday utensils and art objects are shown on the same plane, revealing the artist’s fluid perception of creation as part of daily life.

For DAISAK, tableware is not separate from his art practice—it is an extension of life itself, imbued with the same sense of imagination and narrative as his sculptures. The exhibition invites visitors to sense this gentle connection between daily life and creative practice.

In addition, new works inspired by tennis, a sport the artist has been deeply immersed in recently, will be on view. Having played tennis throughout junior and high school, DAISAK resumed the sport as an adult and discovered surprising parallels between the discipline of play and his artistic process. For him, both tennis and ceramics are rhythmic, repetitive acts rooted in everyday life—each informing the other and leading to new forms of expression.The exhibition will also feature a video work filmed by the artist himself, capturing the sounds of the court and voices of play, creating a resonant space where life and art meet.

Artists’ Statements

Most of my daily work involves making tableware rather than sculptures.
When I hold solo exhibitions, I usually exclude the tableware and present only one-of-a-kind sculptural works. I’ve realized that this separation—deciding what counts as “artwork” and what as “product”—feels unnatural to me. In truth, everything I make exists along a gradient. Whether I call it a product or an artwork depends merely on where and how it’s placed.

In this exhibition, I chose not to draw that line. I’ll include familiar objects used in daily life—tableware and other functional pieces—alongside sculptural works.

I also used to play tennis seriously in middle and high school, and I’ve returned to it in recent years. Through matches, I’ve noticed uncanny similarities between my playing style and my creative approach—the patterns, the flaws, the rhythm. Both tennis and ceramics have become essential parts of my life.

This time, I will present ceramic works inspired by tennis.

DAISAK (b. 1986, Kyoto)

Lives and works in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture.
Drawn to the ambiguous charm of forgotten objects—figurines, souvenirs, and thrift-shop finds—DAISAK reinterprets them through ceramics. Alongside his sculptural works, he also produces practical pottery such as mugs and plates.
